ATHLETICS

College Park Academy created the hashtag #smallbutmighty to describe our athletic department.

While small in size, CPA Athletic teams are determined, powerful, and committed to success both on the field and off. We recognize that sports provide an effective opportunity for students to learn skills needed for athletic success such as teamwork, communication, and commitment, which are all valuable for success in life as well.

CPA high school athletics offers:

  • Girls Varsity Volleyball (Fall)
  • Boys and Girls JV Soccer (Fall)
  • Boys and Girls Cross Country (Fall)
  • Boys and Girls JV Basketball (Winter)
  • Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball (Winter)
  • Our interscholastic high school teams play against:
  • CMIT Academy (Laurel)
  • Northern High School (Hyattsville)
  • Parkdale High School (Riverdale)
  • Laurel High School (Laurel)
  • Tall Oaks High School (Mitchellville)
  • International High School (Largo)
  • Idea (Washington, DC)
  • Croom High School (Cheltenham)

Our athletic program provides our students with the opportunity to participate in friendly competition and exercise while developing their team-building skills, creating strong social bonds, and developing their hobbies and interests outside of academics. CPA hopes to offer soccer in Spring of 2022, and soon after, cross country and track and field based on student interest surveys and faculty coaching capabilities.

Though our athletic teams are small, volleyball and basketball teams have gone to playoffs. Our students’ attitude of determination and ambition extends beyond academics and is clear in our sports teams. College Park Academy students work with each other and push themselves physically and mentally to deliver their best athletic performances. For example, a member of CPA’s second graduating class received a college scholarship for a varsity volleyball at West Virginia Wesleyan, where she went on to attend on a full scholarship.

As CPA grows, our athletic department will continue to grow, allowing students to flourish in their athleticism, team building, and leadership.
